Emeritus/a Faculty Status
Cal State Monterey Bay honors retiring faculty who have demonstrated meritorious service through the award of faculty emeritus status. Nominations may originate from colleagues within or outside the candidate’s department and require a formal voting process at the department or college level, followed by review and written recommendations from the dean and provost. The president makes the final determination, and newly designated faculty emeritus are recognized at a campus event and listed on the Academic Personnel website, reflecting the university’s commitment to honoring excellence and long-standing contributions to the academic community.

Procedures for the Award of Emeritus/a Faculty Status Each nomination for faculty emeritus status is accompanied by a succinct written recommendation from academic colleagues to the Dean or other appropriate administrator, providing evidence of meritorious service. Each department or equivalent academic unit develops their specific criteria for meritorious service. Nominations from faculty colleagues may be sent to the Dean or appropriate administrator in either of two ways shown below.
