Ending Your Housing Agreement

We’re sorry you won’t be living on campus this semester. If your plans have changed, Student Housing and Residential Life is here to guide you through the cancellation process.

Important: First-year students are required to live on campus. If you are a first-year student, you must submit a Live-On Requirement Exception Request to be considered for cancellation.

Cancellation Guidelines

You may request cancellation if you are:

  • Graduating and will not attend the following semester
  • Studying abroad or completing an exchange program
  • Withdrawing or taking a leave of absence from Cal State Monterey Bay
  • Transferring to another college or university
  • Called to active military duty
  • Experiencing extraordinary circumstances

Follow these steps to begin the cancellation process:

Each request is reviewed individually and processed within 7-10 business days. You will receive a confirmation email once your request has been approved or denied.

Submitting a request does not guarantee approval.

2026-2027 Academic Year

When You Cancel Cancellation Fee
Before June 1st, 2026 No fee, you will be refunded the $150 prepayment made during the application.
June 2nd - Aug. 3rd, 2026 $150 cancellation fee. The $150 prepayment made during the application will be collected as this fee.
After Aug. 3rd, 2026 $300 Cancellation fee

For cancellations during the academic year, refer to Section 12 of your Housing and Dining License Agreement.

Students who remain on the housing waitlist and have not been assigned a housing space are not subject to cancellation fees.

Submitting a Request to Cancel License Agreement form does not guarantee approval. Each request is reviewed individually based on eligibility and documentation provided.

Students who have already moved in may still request cancellation. If approved, a 30-day notice is required for the checkout date. Fees may apply depending on the timing and terms outlined in the Housing and Dining License Agreement.

All terms and conditions of the Housing License Agreement remain in effect until written approval confirming cancellation is received.
