Educational Opportunity Program
The Educational Opportunity Program at CSUMB supports students with the potential to thrive in college but who face economic, educational, or social barriers. EOP helps first‑generation and low‑income students access higher education, navigate the transition to college, and succeed through graduation.
About Us
The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at Cal State Monterey Bay supports students who have the potential to thrive in higher education but who face economic, educational or social barriers. Through EOP, first‑generation and low‑income students receive access, advocacy, transitional support (such as Summer Bridge and Transfer Bridge), and ongoing academic and personal support through graduation.
“Our mission is to increase access, academic excellence and retention of California’s historically underserved students (low income, first generation).”
As one student shared: “Through EOP I have gained the confidence to realize my own potential, open my own opportunities and take charge of my education and life.”
Why Choose EOP?
- Access to higher education for historically underserved students — EOP provides a point‑of‑entry pathway for students who might otherwise face barriers.
- Advocacy and education tailored to your experience — Personalized holistic advising, peer mentoring, workshops and enrichment activities designed to support your success.
- Transitional support through programs like Summer Bridge and Transfer Bridge — First‑year freshmen and transfer students receive targeted experiences to build community, connect with resources, and adjust to university life.
- Ongoing academic and personal support from advisors and peer mentors — EOP continues support beyond the first semester with advising, mentoring, and workshops.
- EOP grants for eligible students with financial need — Qualified participants may receive an EOP Grant in addition to other financial aid.
Another student testimonial: “I will forever be grateful for the opportunity given to me to receive an education. Thank you!”
