Welcome to OC3

The Otter Cross Cultural Center (OC3) fosters inclusive, equitable and empowering spaces that celebrate the rich cultural identities and lived experiences of Cal State Monterey Bay students. As a hub for identity-affirming dialogue, collaboration and celebration, OC3 invites students to connect through culturally affirming programs, explore issues of identity and justice and engage in transformative leadership development. Whether you're looking for a welcoming place to study, wanting to attend a cultural event or aspiring to grow as a changemaker, OC3 is here to support your journey.

We are committed to building a campus culture where inclusion is foundational, marginalized voices are heard and every student is empowered to lead, thrive and create a more just world.

Students can:

  • Relax and study in a welcoming space
  • Meet with staff for individual or group advising
  • Attend workshops, trainings and cultural events
  • Explore resources in our social justice library

Explore, Lead and Build Community

OC3 collaborates with a wide range of student groups that represent Cal State Monterey Bay’s vibrant community. These organizations lead events, discussions and peer support rooted in shared identities and social justice values.

Recognized groups include Asian Pacific Islander Association, Black Students United, EOP Club, Helen Rucker Center for Black Excellence, Native American Students United, Pride CSUMB, Student Awareness for Disability Empowerment and Student Veterans Services.

Students and organizations can submit flyers or events to be shared via the OC3 social feed and MyRaft calendar.

Student coordinators are paid student employees who lead signature events, advise peers, and represent the OC3 across campus. Each coordinator oversees a key program area and works collaboratively with other students and staff to co-create inclusive programming.

Focus areas include:

  • Sustainability and Wellness
  • Community Arts
  • Cultural Engagement
  • Signature Programs
  • Social Justice Education
  • Affinity Group Support
  • Social Justice Scholars Program

The OC3 library features books and DVDs exploring identity, equity, race, gender, sexuality and more. Students may browse and check out materials during open hours. To borrow, simply provide your name and email to a staff member.

CSUMB Land Acknowledgment

Cal State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) resides on the indigenous homeland of the Amah Mutsun, Esselen, Ohlone, Rumsen, Salinan people and territories. It is on these rich homelands, where CSUMB not only thrives as an institution of higher education, but also provides an education abundant with service and experience to a diverse community of learners. As our students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members explore the university’s campus, remember to respect the land and take note of the natural beauty. Remember that Ancestors rest below pathways and in other less traveled areas on campus. We Are Here - Let Ka Lai

OC3 Hxstory

OC3 began in 2010 when a group of students imagined a more inclusive CSUMB. Their vision became reality through collaboration and advocacy. Founders Leslie Grinner, Drea Elzy, Brittany Car and others launched what would become a center for identity, justice and belonging. Today, OC3 is part of the Otter Student Union and hosts major campus programs including the All Black Gala, Werk Witch Drag Show, Ignite Social Justice Retreat, and Affinity Celebrations. The center is led by professional staff and student coordinators who bring passion and vision to every initiative.
