How to Use

The optional link will only be visible if CTA Link Text exists.
If CTA Link Text is added, one and only one CTA Link (internal or external) must be selected.

Use the Related News element to create a query (automatic search) the listing will use to collate up to 3 CSUMB 2024 - News content items from across the site. The Related News element allows you to choose which events to display based on Location, Areas of Interest, Audience, Terms, and Type of event.

In the search query, we use "AND" and "OR" functions that help you combine different keywords to get more accurate search results.

  1. When you use "AND" between two or more tags, you're telling the search engine that you want results that include all of those words. For example, if you want to display research news about technology, you will need to use the terms "Research" and "Technology" with the AND query. This helps to limit search results.

  2. When you use "OR" between words, you're telling the search engine that you want results that include either of those words. If you want to display all news that are related to Business or Technology, you will need to use the terms "Business" and "Technology" with the OR query. This helps to broaden search results.

  3. You can also combine both "AND" and "OR" functions in a search query to create more complex searches. For example, if you want to display news related to Business or Technology areas, you will need to (see example below):

    • Use the terms "Research" and "Business" with the AND query

    • Add the OR query, and

    • Add "Research" and "Technology" with the AND query again.

So, in simple terms:

  • "And" narrows down results by requiring all specified keywords to be present.
  • "Or" broadens results by allowing any of the specified keywords to be present.
  • You can combine "and" and "or" for more precise searches.

The following steps are how the Related News element works, please see the screenshot that corresponds to each number:

Using the AND query

  1. Type in the element to find categories/tags, click to add all required categories/tags.
  2. To make sure only the news with images are used, always select the option "Include News to Feature"
  3. Click confirm once you have added all the categories required.

Using the OR query

  1. Type in the element to find categories/tags, click to add the first category/tag.
  2. Click confirm once you have the first category.
  3. Click Append to query to add the OR function.
  4. Add the second category and click confirm.

Combining queries

  1. Add the first AND query by selecting all required tags.
  2. Click confirm.
  3. Click "Append to query" to add the OR function.
  4. Add the subsequent query (this can be a single query or an AND query) and confirm. Repeat as needed.

To change an existing query, click the "X" next to your confirmed terms and re-add your categories.

In summary, confirm categories in the same box to add the AND query, and confirm one at a time to use the OR relationship. The "Include News to Feature" category must be selected in all AND queries.
