Women’s Leadership Council

The mission of the Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) is to support educational opportunities for re-entry students at CSUMB.

We encourage women leaders in our community and region to learn more about Cal State Monterey Bay and play a philanthropic role supporting our mission.

Who Are Re-Entry Students?

Comprising nearly 20 percent of the Cal State Monterey Bay student body, re-entry students are those who are returning to school after an absence of a year or more and have to overcome financial and/or parenting challenges traditional students don’t typically encounter.

The scholarships and support offered by the WLC are open and available to all re-entry students who apply regardless of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin.

A Proud History of Empowerment and Togetherness

The WLC has a membership base of more than 140. Their dedicated work – along with proceeds from Otter Outfitters, grants and scholarship endowment – has been positively impacting the lives of re-entry students since 2003.

Our accomplishments include:

• Growing the WLC Scholarship Endowment to more than $400,000
• Awarding more than 150 scholarships to re-entry students
• Distributing more than 145 emergency awards of up to $500 to assist with unexpected financial obligations
• Offering a professional clothing closet, Otter Outfitters, for CSUMB students and alumni
• Creating the inaugural Community Woman of Distinction award in 2017
