Coordinating the development, review and approval of university policies.
Oversight and Coordination of University Policies
The Policy Facilitation Team (PFT) supports the development, review and approval of university policies at Cal State Monterey Bay. Established in 1998, the team helps ensure policies are created through a collaborative, transparent and campuswide process.
The PFT includes one coordinator from each university division, along with faculty and student consultants. Together, the team coordinates policy development and review to support consistent decision making and effective university operations.

How Policies Support the University
Policies guide how Cal State Monterey Bay conducts its work in a consistent, equitable and organized way. They help create clarity, support accountability and ensure alignment across the campus community.
Policy and Procedure: What’s the Difference?
A policy is a formal statement of principles or intent that reflects the university’s values and establishes a framework for decision-making and resource allocation.
A procedure outlines the specific steps or actions used to carry out a policy in day-to-day operations.
Role of the Policy Facilitator
Each division’s policy facilitator is appointed by the vice president to represent that division on the Policy Facilitation Team. Facilitators coordinate, guide and support the development and review of policies.
Policy developers work under the leadership of the facilitator to draft and refine individual policies.
Proposing a New Policy
To propose a new policy, begin by sharing your idea with your division’s policy facilitator. The facilitator will help guide the proposal through the appropriate development and review process.
Policy Approval
All university policies receive final approval from the president of Cal State Monterey Bay.
