Financial Aid

Emergency Book Loans

The Emergency Book/Meal Plan Loan Program at CSUMB allows financial aid recipients to use approved financial aid funds in excess of the charges on their student account to purchase books from the CSUMB Bookstore or a Meal Plan before their scheduled disbursement date. Students are required to submit an electronic Emergency Book/Meal Plan Loan Form.

Eligibility requirements

  1. The student's total financial aid award amount for the semester must exceed all institutional charges on the student's account (including, but not limited to tuition, fees, campus housing, and meals).
  2. Authorization is granted or denied based on a snapshot of the student's account at the time of completion of electronic Emergency Book/Meal Plan Loan Form. If changes in enrollment or any other circumstances lead to a change in the student's financial aid eligibility, the student will become responsible for any outstanding balances that may occur.
  3. Student must be registered.
  4. Student must currently meet SAP Policy.
  5. Student must have completed all steps required for Direct Loan funds, if Emergency funds would create a deficit on the student's account.
  6. Student may only request Emergency Book/Meal Plan Loan funds up to $400 during the first week of the semester.

Opt-Out: CSUMB is required to make all or a part of a Pell Grant-eligible student’s anticipated Title IV credit balance available in time for the student to purchase books and supplies by the seventh day of the payment period. By not requesting an Emergency Book/Meal Plan Loan when eligible, a student is voluntarily opting-out of this program which grants him or her early access to financial aid funds for the purchase of books and supplies.

Title IV funds are federal and state grant and loan funds in the following programs: Unsubsidized Direct Loan, Subsidized Direct Loan, Graduate Plus Loan, Parent Plus Loan, Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Teacher Educational Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant, State University Grant, Educational Opportunity Grant, Student Support Services Grant, CAMP Grant.
