GradGuard - Tuition Insurance
GradGuard Tuition Insurance can help students and families overcome the financial loss of an unexpected withdrawal. Plans can provide reimbursement for tuition payments, room and board, and other nonrefundable academic fees if a student withdraws due to a covered illness, injury, mental health condition, and more.
Tuition insurance is a voluntary benefit that is only available for purchase during a limited period of time before the first day of classes of the fall and spring terms. Your participation is NOT required. CSU Monterey Bay is not compensated for this program.

Tuition Insurance can provide reimbursement for non-refundable tuition, housing, and other education-related expenses if a student withdraws due to a covered medical reason, at any time during the covered term. GradGuard Tuition Insurance can provide a financial safety net for student and families who want to protect their investment in higher education. GradGuard can reimburse up to 100% of the student’s investment, including other school-invoiced fees, after a withdrawal due to a covered reason such as:
- Serious Injury or Illness such as mononucleosis, or severe head injury
- Chronic Illness such as diabetes or an auto-immune disorder
- Mental Health Conditions like depression, anxiety, suicide/attempted suicide
Covered withdrawals can take place any time during the covered term. GradGuard offers members special access to an Assistance Hotline to help students and their families take care of emergencies and unexpected issues.

Information is also available on our student payment site during the enrollment period, prior to the start of the fall and spring terms. Your purchase of tuition insurance must occur before the first day of classes for the term of coverage, and is completely optional.
Claims can be processed at any time. To be eligible for coverage the event/incident must occur within the plan’s coverage period. The claims process begins by calling (888) 427-5045.
