Records Services and Support
The Records Division supports the Cal State Monterey Bay Police Department by maintaining official reports, managing records and providing timely service to the campus community and law enforcement partners.
Our office ensures accurate record keeping, efficient information retrieval and responsive public service for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
What We Do
The Records Division is responsible for:
- Processing and maintaining police reports
- Scanning and archiving case documents
- Validating and reviewing reports
- Preparing prosecution packages for District Attorney review and court proceedings
- Managing statistics and data reporting
- Providing copy and distribution services
- Assisting law enforcement agencies
- Processing statewide and national teletype communications
- Supporting public records requests
Release of Vehicles
Vehicles will only be released to the Registered Owner, Legal Owner or an authorized agent.
An agent may represent a business or be appointed by the Registered Owner with a notarized letter or document that includes a signature and seal.
Requirements for Vehicle Release
To obtain a vehicle release, you must provide:
- Current vehicle registration. If registration is expired, provide proof of renewal, DMV payment confirmation, a One-Day Moving Permit or a Permit of Non-Operation for towing.
- Proof of current vehicle insurance.
- A valid driver’s license. If you are not licensed, you must bring a licensed driver to operate the vehicle.
Vehicle Release Fees
Payment must be made by cash, check or money order payable to CSUMB.
- $25 for CSUMB affiliates (students, faculty and staff)
- $100 for non-affiliates
Request Police Records or Information
To request police records:
- Complete the Application for Police Information
- Submit the application to the Parking Office cashier at the CSUMB Police Department
- Provide a copy of a state- or government-issued ID, or your CSUMB ID if affiliated with the university
Requests may include:
- Police reports
- Subpoenas
- Records checks for public or authorized private agencies
- Background checks for authorized law enforcement
- Vehicle releases
- Records-related audits
- Evidence storage and adjudication documentation
