OTTERalerts

OTTERalert is CSUMB’s emergency alert system. It delivers emergency alerts via email, text, desktop notification, and an outdoor speaker system to all members of the CSUMB community.

Emergency Alerts for CSUMB Students and Employees

CSUMB employees and students automatically receive emergency alert emails to their campus email address whenever there is an emergency on campus or when the system is undergoing testing.

Alerting Methods

Email alerts

OTTERalert emails are sent from csumb@email.getrave.com or noreply@genasys.com. CSUMB employees and students automatically receive OTTERalert emails to their campus email account.

Desktop alerts

OTTERalert messaging are sent to all CSUMB-owned/managed computer workstations and laptops running the Rave Notifier software. OTTERalert will display a full-screen pop-up alert that provides messaging about the emergency on campus and what actions to take. Learn more about the Rave Notifier software on your desktop

Text alerts

OTTERalert texts come from  226787, 67283, 78015 or 77295. To stop receiving the text alerts, reply STOP to an OTTERalert message. CSUMB employees and students are encouraged to enroll in text alert.

Speaker system alerts 

Depending on the situation, the campus speaker system may be used.

Website alerts

The Emergency Information Page may be used for notifications and updates. In the event of an emergency, every page of the CSUMB website displays a banner with emergency alerts and updates.

Social Media alerts

CSUMB’s Facebook may be used for notifications and updates.

OTTERalerts for Parents and Family Members

Parents and family members of CSUMB students and employees can receive emergency alerts via text by having their cell phone number added to an existing CSUMB student or employee OTTERalert account. 

OTTERalerts for the General Public

Anyone who is not a CSUMB employee or student can receive CSUMB’s emergency alerts via text by texting OTTERalert to 226787. Active emergency alerts can also be viewed at csumb.edu/emergency.

Contact CSUMB University Police or the Emergency Manager.

In an emergency, CALL 9-1-1. The Police Department’s public counter is open Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. when CSUMB is open. Officers are available 24/7. Call (831) 655-0268 for non-emergency situations.
