When we work together to prevent crime, we all benefit. CSUMB University Police regularly hosts departmental training sessions, campus events, and community classes in CPR and AED as well as self-defense.

Theft Prevention

Taking precautions with your property can help reduce the likelihood of theft. In addition to the general steps you might take anywhere — like locking your vehicle and windows and keeping valuables out of plain sight — CSUMB University Police have a few campus-specific tips.

  • Always lock your bicycle to a designated rack using a strong, secure lock (we recommend a U-lock). Keep a record of its serial number, and consider adding it to our Bicycle Registry. 
  • Vehicle thefts and car burglaries at CSUMB typically occur at night. Be sure to keep your car locked with windows rolled up and remove any valuables from sight. Stay alert in parking areas at night and report any suspicious activity to the University Police Department.
  • Never leave your laptop unattended, and consider safeguarding your personal information using a secure digital password management system.

Active Shooter Preparedness

The University Police Department regularly delivers active shooter preparedness training presentations. If you are interested in scheduling a presentation for your department, contact us at upd@csumb.edu.

The California State University Police have prepared an Active Shooter Response Protocol postcard. You can also access additional training through SumTotal (search for active shooter) or watch the videos below.

Sexual Assault Prevention

The CSUMB University Police Department regularly offers courses in the Rape Aggression Defense System (RAD), taught by nationally certified instructors. 

If you have any concerns about sexual assault on University Police Department, please feel free to email, call or text the CSUMB Campus Advocate (831-402-9477) or email or call the Personal Growth and Counseling Center (831-582-3969). Reporting an assault to the police is always your choice.

Report a Crime

To file a police report on campus, contact the University Police Department at 831-655-0268. In the event of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

Contact University Police

Our officers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Reach out with any questions, concerns, or to schedule a special event or departmental training session.

In an emergency, CALL 9-1-1. The Police Department’s public counter is open Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. when CSUMB is open. Officers are available 24/7. Call (831) 655-0268 for non-emergency situations.
