As a part of our CSU-USC Racial Equity Cohort participation, Cal State University, Monterey Bay is participating in the National Assessment of Collegiate Campus Climates. The NACCC survey content is based on more than a decade of the USC Race and Equity Center’s qualitative climate studies at colleges and universities across the country. The survey will assess students' feelings about mattering, inclusion, and racial climate on campus. Survey administration dates: April 4-30, 2024. Survey results anticipated: Fall 2024.

  • Following the 2014 Diversity Mapping Project, California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) first conducted the Campus Climate Study in 2015-16. CSUMB conducted the study again in 2022 to better understand how students, faculty, and staff experience diversity and inclusion on campus.

    The objectives of the Campus Climate Study were to:

    • Better understand personal experiences and perceptions of campus climate from the  perspective of students, faculty, and staff for a more complete understanding of the  climate for diversity on campus;
    • Identify and explore the experiences and challenges faced by students, faculty, and staff,  especially people from systemically marginalized populations;
    • Identify strategies to reduce challenges that disproportionately affect students, faculty,  and staff from systemically marginalized populations.

    Methods

    The Campus Climate Study included an online survey and focus groups with students, staff, and faculty at CSUMB. The online survey, conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA, included a student-focused Diverse Learning Environments Survey (DLE), Staff Climate Survey (SCS), and HERI Faculty Survey survey (FAC). Senior administrators at CSUMB and higher education researchers will use the results from this study to improve the student, staff, and faculty experience.
