Office of Community and Belonging

Culture of Care Workshops

As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a culture of care, OCB is currently reimagining our suite of trainings. This transformation is centered around cultural healing, connection, and building systems that foster real belonging for all members of the Otter community. While we are actively redesigning this work-- with full implementation expected during Fall 2025-- we welcome your feedback and participation.

Foster a Culture of Care: Workshop on Workplace Dynamics & Compassionate Communication

Creating a supportive and respectful campus culture starts with understanding the complexities of supervisor-staff relationships—especially when the usual lines of influence feel reversed. Join Ombuds Mark Patterson and The Wellness Raft for an interactive workshop, “Creating a Culture of Care for Campus Employees,” designed to equip managers with practical tools for responding to shifts in power dynamics—those moments when your perspective feels dismissed or distorted—while still leading with empathy and clarity.

In this session you will:

  • Spot the early signs of coercive behaviors that can erode leadership confidence and team morale
  • Restore psychological safety by fostering openness, accountability, and mutual trust
  • Apply communication frameworks that keep conversations respectful, solution-focused, and compassion-centered

Leave with concrete strategies you can put to work immediately to strengthen your leadership presence and build a healthier, more resilient workplace.
