President's Committee on Community & Belonging

As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a culture of care, OCB is currently reimagining our President’s Committee on Community & Belonging. This transformation is centered around cultural healing, connection, and building systems that foster real belonging for all members of the Otter community. While we are actively redesigning this work-- with full implementation expected during Fall 2025-- we welcome your feedback and participation.

Care and Belonging Plans

The Office of Community and Belonging is committed to advancing the University-Wide Goal for 2025–26: Sustain and Enrich the Otter Culture of Care. In alignment with Pillar C of the Making Waves, Transforming Futures Strategic Plan—Cultivating an Inclusive and Engaged Community—our plans center on creating a campus where every student, faculty, and staff member feels seen, valued, and connected.

Our initiatives focus on:

  • Acknowledging and recognizing the contributions of our Otter Raft through regular celebrations, expressions of appreciation, and storytelling (C.3, C.4).
  • Encouraging and supporting well-being by empowering community members to take an active role in both their personal wellness and the collective life of the campus (C.1).
  • Increasing engagement by strengthening internal connections that foster belonging, collaboration, and mutual care across all divisions and identities (C.2).

These priorities are rooted in our vision of CSU Monterey Bay as a Caring University—a place where respect, empathy, and active inclusion shape daily life. We know that a thriving Otter Culture of Care depends on each person’s sense of belonging and agency, and on our shared responsibility to lift each other up.

To ensure our plans are responsive and inclusive, listening sessions will be held in Fall 2025 with students, faculty, and staff. These conversations will help guide our actions so that every member of our community can see themselves as an essential part of the Otter Raft. Together, we will sustain and grow a Culture of Care where everyone belongs.
