Growth Mindset
There is a powerful relationship between what we believe about how we learn and our actual achievement.
Students with a “fixed mindset” tend to believe they are born with a certain level of intelligence and that there's not much they can do to change it. This fixed mindset can lead them to be quiet when they don't understand something, put in less effort, and give up when they fail at a task.
On the other hand, students with a “growth mindset” see intelligence more like a muscle. They know that if they put in effort, they can get smarter.
- When they don't understand something, they ask questions or try a new learning strategy.
- If they fail, they work harder.
Guess what: students with a growth mindset tend to do better in school.
No matter who you are, you can improve with effort, good strategies and help. Watch this helpful video from Bryan University for more.
