Otter Guarantee

The Otter Guarantee ensures your tuition and fees are fully covered, because everyone deserves a chance to receive a university education.

How Can I Qualify?

New first-year students beginning in Fall 2026 will qualify if they meet the criteria below:

  1. Are a California resident or otherwise qualify for in-state tuition
  2. Apply to Cal State Monterey Bay
  3. Confirm your enrollment after being admitted
  4. Complete the 2026–27 FAFSA or CADAA, listing Cal State Monterey Bay (FAFSA filers must be Pell Grant eligible)
  5. Have a Student Aid Index (SAI) of 5,000 or less

To remain eligible, students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as a full-time student (12 or more units per semester) and renew their financial aid application each year by the priority deadline.
