The Academic Success Grant awards a $1,000 grant to eligible, incoming students. A CSU education is within reach. Do not let cost stand between you and your academic aspirations.

Eligible students who complete their FAFSA or CADAA by the California priority deadline and have a Student Aid Index (SAI) between 8,000-15,000, will be considered for an additional $1,000 grant.

The Academic Success Grant is a financial support award given to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and a need for financial assistance. The award totals $1,000.

To qualify for the Academic Success Grant, you must meet the criteria below:

  • Complete your FAFSA or CADAA before the California priority deadline and have a Student Aid Index (SAI) between 8,000-15,000
  • Have been admitted to CSUMB as a new, incoming student
  • Enroll as a full-time student (taking 12+ units per semester)
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

At this time, the Academic Success Grant is only available to new incoming students for the fall 2026 semester. 

No renewal application is required. In order to remain eligible for the Academic Success Grant, students must:

  • Complete their FAFSA or CADAA before the California priority deadline 
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, complete at least 67% of all units attempted each semester, and not exceed your maximum timeframe to finish your degree
  • Stay enrolled as a  full-time student status by taking 12+ units per semester

No. To remain eligible for the Academic Success Grant, Cal State Monterey Bay states students must be full-time, taking 12 or more units per semester while maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher.
