Types of Financial Aid at CSUMB
Grants
Grants are need-based financial aid awards that don’t need to be repaid. These include the Federal Pell Grant, California State Grant, and the State University Grant.
Scholarships
CSUMB awards more than $14 million in scholarships annually. Like grants, these awards do not need to be repaid. Scholarships include need- and merit-based awards, including options for specific areas of study. Our office also keeps an updated list of external scholarships.
Student Loans
Federal student loans can help cover the cost of tuition. They are available in a variety of amounts and terms. Our team is committed to helping you and your family understand borrowing requirements and how to responsibly manage loans.
Student Employment
The Federal Work-Study program provides student employment opportunities on campus or with local organizations. Typically, students may work up to 20 hours per week, and income earned can be used toward educational and living expenses.
Graduate Assistantships
Students pursuing master’s degrees at Cal State Monterey Bay may be eligible for funding opportunities, including teaching associate and research assistant positions.
Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)
Admitted students from eligible states and territories in the American West and Pacific Islands may qualify for an out-of-state tuition discount.
