Shaping Ideas Through Creative Practice

The Visual Arts and Music Department is a community of artists, musicians and scholars committed to creative expression and cultural dialogue. Students experiment with visual media and music while exploring the historical, cultural and social contexts that shape artistic practice.

Through studio work, performance, collaboration and community-based projects, students gain technical skills and critical perspectives that prepare them for a wide range of futures. Graduates pursue careers as artists, musicians, educators and cultural leaders, or continue on to advanced study in the arts.

Programs

Music, B.A. and Minor

The Music program offers a hands-on learning experience that emphasizes well-rounded musicianship and exceptional career preparation through a balance of experience in performance, composition, musicology, ethnomusicology, music theory, acoustics and music technology.

The Visual and Public Art program combines theory and practice and will empower you to develop a lifelong set of skills that synthesize studio and community arts approaches to artistic production, exhibition and education.
