Faculty and Staff Guide

Collaborating to connect students with peer-led tutoring and academic support that promotes confidence, independence and success.

Guidance for Partnering with the CLC

Include a brief note in your syllabus to encourage student engagement with academic support services:

Free peer tutoring and Supplemental Instruction are available through the Cooperative Learning Center. Tutoring is offered in math, science, writing, languages, technology, and more. Study time at the CLC helps clarify course content, build skills, and strengthen academic confidence. Visit csumb.edu/clc to learn more or schedule an appointment.

A short “Top 5 Things to Know About the CLC” video is available to share or embed. Contact us for access.

Tutoring and SI are offered both in-person and online. CLC tutors and SI leaders use Zoom and other learning technologies to facilitate inclusive, interactive sessions. All peer educators are trained in facilitation, metacognitive strategies and learner-centered approaches to foster student independence.

If you have questions about our model, contact Director Elise Dixon at eldixon@csumb.edu.

Students must schedule appointments via TutorCloud to maintain privacy and session security. Recorded sessions are not emailed or distributed directly by tutors. CLC administrators may provide session recordings only to students who were officially scheduled.

For questions about session access or tutoring materials, email clc@csumb.edu.

Understand Our Mission

The CLC is not a quick-fix service but a place where students build academic skills through conversation, guidance and trust. Our tutors are trained to create a welcoming environment that meets students where they are.

Refer Early and Often

Frame tutoring as a tool for success, not remediation. Talk about the CLC early in the semester, and connect students with us when introducing major assignments.

Request a Class Visit or Workshop

Tutors can visit your class to explain our services, hours and how to make appointments. Faculty and staff may also request study skills workshops tailored to student needs.

Submit a request.

Not Faculty? You Can Still Refer Students

We value partnerships with campus programs like EOP, TRiO, Student Housing, Financial Aid, Advising, Career & Student Success, International Programs and others. All referrals are welcome.

Planning to Require CLC Visits?

Please contact us first at clc@csumb.edu to ensure we can accommodate your students and coordinate appropriate support.
