Building confidence, curiosity and academic success through peer‑to‑peer collaboration, inclusive support and shared learning experiences.

Supporting Student Success Through Collaborative Learning

The Cooperative Learning Center (CLC) supports student success through peer-to-peer collaboration that builds confidence, curiosity, and academic skills. Guided by trained student tutors, the CLC creates inclusive learning spaces and works across disciplines to provide accessible, student-centered tutoring and coaching.

What We Do and Where We Help

The CLC promotes student success through peer-to-peer collaboration that builds confidence, curiosity and academic growth. Guided by trained student tutors, the CLC creates inclusive spaces where learning happens through connection, and students are empowered to take ownership of their academic journey.

Our work is rooted in partnership — with faculty, staff and the broader campus community — and aligned with the CSUMB Vision Statement. We design responsive, student-centered learning experiences that help students develop study strategies, habits of mind and long-term academic resilience. At the same time, peer tutors gain valuable skills in teaching, communication, leadership and purpose, contributing to a vibrant and supportive learning community.

We are committed to honoring each student’s unique learning path, fostering inclusive and welcoming environments, and recognizing that learning is a shared, social process. Through respect, equity and personalized support, we help every student grow with confidence.

Tutoring is available across a wide range of subjects to meet the diverse academic needs of CSUMB students. Whether you're working on a lab report, brushing up on a language, or tackling a tough math problem, our trained peer tutors are here to help.

In-Person Check-In

Arrive at the front desk and staff will direct you to your session location.

Online Access

Use the Zoom link in your Otter Navigate appointment confirmation. Make sure you’re signed in to your CSUMB Zoom account via Single Sign-On (SSO) to avoid access issues.

Can I still join a session if I’m late?

  • 50-minute appointments: If you're more than 15 minutes late, your spot may be given to another student. We’ll do our best to help you reschedule.

How many appointments can I make?

  • Per week: Up to three appointments per subject without staff approval.

  • Per day: One appointment per subject is usually enough.

    • For writing, students are limited to one appointment per day but can also attend drop-ins.

    • If you need more than one session in a day, check with the front desk. We’ll schedule a second if space is available and if it’s not back-to-back with the same tutor.

Students with accommodations may have different scheduling needs. Contact us at clc@csumb.edu after working with SDR, or if you need help connecting with their office.

Do I need a password for online sessions?

CLC sessions don’t require a password, but you must be signed in to csumb.zoom.us using SSO. If not, Zoom may prompt you for a password or block access.

Why are Zoom sessions recorded?

CLC sessions are recorded for training and quality improvement. Recordings are only accessible to participants in the session and are never shared publicly, in line with FERPA privacy policy.

Can I request a recording of my session?

Can I set up recurring appointments for the semester?
