Final assessments for face-to-face and synchronous online courses are conducted during a dedicated week each semester, from Monday through Friday. Classes meet at their regular start time and follow the assigned time blocks for assessments. For courses with special formats or those not following the standard schedule, instructors will provide additional guidance.

Final assessment schedules are subject to change. Students should always confirm specific dates and times with their instructors.

Classes Not Scheduled for Final Assessments

The following types of courses are not automatically assigned a final assessment time. If a final is required, instructors will provide details directly.

  • Courses that meet for 1 hour or less per week
  • Non-enrollment component classes (e.g., class sections in the 50s or 60s)
  • Accelerated courses (that do not meet regularly for the full semester)
  • Performance and activity courses (e.g., theater, film, music, athletics)
  • Lab courses
  • Independent Study courses (course numbers ending in 97)

Students should confirm final assessment details with their instructor for these course types.

Final Assessments for Special Class Types

Some classes may not have a scheduled final assessment. Students enrolled in the following types of classes should check directly with their instructor to confirm whether a final will be required.

  • Graduate-level courses (typically numbered 500 or higher)
  • Hybrid classes (section numbers in the 80s)
  • Classes that meet on Saturdays or Sundays
  • 50-minute classes that meet multiple days per week (such as MWF)

If a final is required, it will follow the standard Final Assessment Week schedule. Instructors of these classes will receive rescheduling details by the second Friday of the semester.

Requesting an Alternate Final Assessment Time or Location

For Instructors

Instructors seeking to change the day, time, or location of a final assessment should first consult with their department to explore alternate options.

For Department Support Staff

To request a change, department staff must submit a schedule change request form to academic_scheduling@csumb.edu. In the form, select “Alternate Final Assessment/Exam Request” as the action item in the first column. Be sure to include the full class section information. You may either propose a preferred day, time, and location (based on availability in 25Live) or request alternate scheduling options for the currently assigned room.

Note for Department Staff

If an instructor submits a second request to change the final assessment time or location, please schedule a 15-minute Zoom meeting with the Academic Scheduling Office to resolve the matter more efficiently. A second rescheduling request will also require Dean approval.
