CSU Monterey Bay’s recent ascension in nationwide college rankings – including in U.S. News and World Report, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes – was the starting point for a wide-ranging interview reporter Manasa Gogineni of Salinas-based The Californian conducted with CSUMB President Vanya Quiñones.

They also talked about Quiñones’ upbringing and background, how she intends to grow the university, her efforts to increase engagement with students and meet their basic needs, and CSUMB’s mission of boosting the future prospects and social mobility for graduates’ and their families.

“CSUMB is ready to keep growing,” reporter Manasa Gogineni wrote in the story. “President Vanya Quiñones says she has four goals to make this happen.”

They include:

  • Create a strong sense of community
  • Enhance communication within the university community
  • Balance institutional budgets
  • Make use of resources across the campus
