Safiya U. Noble - President's Speaker Series

Safiya U. Noble, Ph.D., will talk about "Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism."

As part of our President's Speaker Series, Safiya U. Noble, Ph.D., is a visiting professor at the University of Southern California (USC) Annenberg School of Communication and is on the faculty of both the Department of Information Studies in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies and the Department of African American Studies at UCLA.

Noble’s thesis is a new tune in the ever-louder chorus that, in light of the dominance of the big tech companies, is singing for ‘protections and attention that work in service of the public’.
