Intro to Animal Training

Class Dates: January 13-19, 2020

Class Times: 9:30 am - 5:30 pm

California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and Moss Landing Marine Laboratories have joined forces to offer a course designed to introduce students to the exciting field of animal and marine mammal. The one-week class is held daily at Moss Landing Marine Labs. Students will cover training, handling, researching, and rehabilitating and have the opportunity to intern at least one day assisting with research-trained California sea lions.

Course Description

  • History and ethics of animal training
  • Animal behavioral training from a psychological and technical perspective
  • The principles of practical goals of modifying captive animal behavior

Achievement Outcomes

  • Certificate of Completion in Beginning Marine Mammalogy upon completing BIO 347, BIO 148, and an internship
  • Fulfills MLO #7 for ESTP Majors or College Science Requirements


  • No prerequisites needed
  • Open to all high school graduates
