Veterans Week

Celebrating from November 13-16, 2018!

Attend a veterans week event on campus!

Ways to Show your Appreciation on Campus

There are currently 83 CSUMB student veterans on campus. They are enrolled in a variety of majors. The most popular ones include Collaborative Health & Human Services, Business, Kinesiology, and Psychology.

Show interest, don't assume, ask

Some appropriate questions to ask a veteran about their military service include:

  • Which branch of the military did you serve in? Why did you pick that branch?
  • What did you do in the military?
  • How long did you serve?
  • Did anyone else in your family serve?

It is important to never ask if a veteran has killed anyone. Most veterans are happy to talk about their time in the service, however, if the veteran tells you they are not interested in talking with you about their service, be supportive, not intrusive.

Share your own experiences

If you grew up in a military family or have a relative that is serving or has served, share that information with the student veterans that you meet! You may find that you have something in common; maybe you lived on a base or a post in the same part of the world as the student veteran.
