TRiO SSS STEM-HS is a new program that provides academic, career development, and personal support for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and Health Sciences (HS) students who are first-generation, low-income students and/or students with disabilities. SSS STEM-HS has a team of professional staff advisors and student peer mentors to provide guidance and support on academic, personal, and professional matters.
Through a partnership with UROC and other programs, SSS STEM-HS connects students with internships and research opportunities to advance their studies and careers.
The program organizes cultural enrichment events - such as theater events, kayaking, hiking, and museum visits - to help students gain new perspectives and explore the area they live in.
In Fall 2015: • 98.3% of SSS STEM/HS students were in good academic standing • 15% achieved a 4.0 GPA • 100% persisted to the following Spring 2016 semester • 16 STEM/HS students were on the Dean's List
