Summer Housing

To apply for Summer Housing, fill out the application on your MyHousing Dashboard, and pay the $125 reservation fee. Applications open Monday, April 27, and the priority deadline is Monday, May 4.

Certain services will either have limited hours, or will not be available during summer break. This includes, but is not limited to dining services, library access, as well as a limited bus schedule. Summer Housing

Summer housing will be available on a very limited basis this year. Please see below for information and guidelines.

Summer Rates for 2020

Summer Housing rates are based on two students being assigned to each apartment. Assignments will be made based on availability. We cannot guarantee that a preferred bedroom and rate will be available.

  • East Campus Single Unfurnished - $744
  • East Campus Double Unfurnished - $812*
  • East Campus Single Furnished - $759
  • East Campus Double Furnished - $833*
  • East Campus Family - $1,444

*Adjusted rates due to single occupancy of double occupancy bedroom to support social distancing during COVID-19 response.

Assignment information

Assignments will be made on a rolling basis once students are approved for housing.

Summer Housing Requirements

In order to remain in on-campus housing during the summer, the resident must be

  • A current resident at the time of submitting a housing application; and,
  • Have an active Fall 2020 reservation; and,
  • Meet one of the following criteria:
    • Currently live in a family unit; or,
    • Be a Guardian Scholar student; or,
    • Be a student facing housing insecurity (must document and obtain approval); or,
    • Be an international student who is unable to return home due to international travel restrictions or lack of Visa (must document and obtain approval).

Rent for Summer Session(s) will be due on a monthly basis the 1st of the month every month, with a 10 day grace period. Please note late fees will be assessed for all fees paid after the 10th of the month.

Students with documented and approved special needs, who require specific housing accommodations, must meet with the campus Student Disability Resource office for assistance with housing recommendations. They can be reached at (831) 582-3672.

Mail & Packages

Summer Housing residents will receive mail and packages at their East Campus assignment. Addresses will be provided within your assignment letter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is Summer Housing only available to students still living on campus and not other students registered for Summer term classes?

A: We understand and hear your frustration. These are unprecedented circumstances and recognize that our students are managing a lot right now. As a reminder, the license terms for 19-20 have always indicated that it would end on May 16, 2020 at 7:00 PM, which is what all current residential students agreed to when they signed up for on-campus housing. No extensions or guarantees are noted in the license beyond providing housing during the license period. Our summer housing limitations this year revolve around the end of your license agreement and our response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and we look forward to serving you in the future.

Q: What documentation do I need to provide to show that I am facing housing insecurity?

A: While we understand that there may not be a specific document that verifies housing insecurity, we will need supporting documents to help us better understand your needs. As you go through the summer housing application, if you select your criteria as housing insecure, you will be prompted to provide some form of documentation. You will be able to upload documents and will need to do so to be considered.

Some forms of documentation you should consider to include could be the following:

  • A detailed explanation of your current housing circumstances and anticipated summer housing circumstances if you are not approved for on-campus housing.
  • A supporting statement from a CSUMB staff and/or faculty member or another professional staff member within your community (ex. counselor, organization mentor, shelter staff, etc.) that is aware of your housing insecure circumstances.

Please know that due to COVID-19, summer housing this year is meant to support students in the most extreme of circumstances. If you have a safe and stable alternative off-campus housing opportunity, you will need to explore that option because you will not qualify for summer housing. Please refer back to our website for those criteria details and reach out to our department if you need any additional clarification.

Q: What if I want an extension but I don’t qualify for Summer Housing?

A: At this time, we are asking all residents who are not eligible for summer 2020 housing to prepare to move out at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year license agreement no later than 7:00 PM on May 16, 2020. If you will not be applying for summer housing and are seeking an extension or delayed departure from your original move out date of May 16, 2020, please continue to monitor your CSUMB email account and our Student Housing website for updated communication regarding this matter in the near future.

Q: What are the summer rates?

Q: The summer rate is different from my rate lock. What rate will I pay?

A: Rate lock will be taken into consideration for summer housing rates. Once you have completed your summer housing application and have been approved, you will receive your summer housing assignment letter. Within that assignment letter, you will see your specific summer housing rate.

Due to social distancing, each apartment in East Campus will be assigned no more than two residents. If you are assigned to the double bedroom within the unit, rate lock will still be taken into consideration, however you’ll notice a slight increase due to the size difference of your private bedroom.

Please wait for your assignment letter to show your exact rate for summer housing. Feel free to reach out to us to discuss your individual circumstances if needed.

Q: Where to turn for housing resources since I don’t qualify for summer housing?

A: Our summer housing criteria provides support for students who have no other housing option. Those who fall into the category of housing insecurity can log onto the MyHousing portal to submit a housing application. That application process prompts those students to upload their supporting documents within the portal. They do not need to follow a separate process if they face housing insecurity without summer housing support.

For those residents who have other housing options, but elect to remain living in the local area, we encourage them to communicate with their supporters about the upcoming summer months to proactively plan for move out on May 16th, 2020. Q: Can I move into my fall East Campus assignment early as my summer assignment?

A: Summer housing assignments will be made on a rolling basis once students are approved for housing. Once you complete all requirements for your summer application, more communication will follow. Our Assignment Specialists will continue to do their best in accommodating a smooth transition but it is not guaranteed your fall assignment will be vacant and prepared by the start of summer housing.
