Dana O'Donnell
She/Her/Hers
My name is Dana, and this is my first year as a College Corps Service Learning Student Leader. I grew up in the Midwest and moved to California in 2014. In 2019 I graduated from San Diego City College with my A.S. in Behavioral Science, concentrating in Alcohol and Other Drug Studies. In my experience working as a substance use counselor, I primarily served homeless and housing insecure individuals. My passion for social justice is centered on the fight for universal housing, drug decriminalization, and harm reduction policy. In 2021 I enrolled at CSUMB to pursue my B.A. in Social and Behavioral Sciences. Here at CSUMB, I also co-founded the Abolitionist and Decolonial Learning Collective (ADLC), a new student group on campus. I was inspired to apply to SL2 because of the program’s focus on building the capacity for long-term structural change while being grounded in serving the immediate needs of the community. I am excited to have the opportunity to be of service in both these ways.
