Getting Started

If you are new to Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) and have not yet received disability accommodations at CSUMB, you need to register with SDR first by completing the following steps.

CSUMB’s Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) department  assists students with gaining access to university programs and services such as accommodations for academic courses, housing and a variety of assistive technologies. SDR Advisors support students in registering, authorizing accommodations, advising on procedures and are able to refer students to on and off campus departments.

 Students should begin making arrangements to request accommodations as early as 2 months prior to each semester. Each SDR accommodation page informs students of the approximate lead time required to receive an accommodation. 

SDR drop-in sessions are available for any student who needs to check in with an SDR advisor and ask questions regarding specific documentation required for an accommodation.

Step #1

Before you can schedule an intake appointment, you must complete the following steps: 

1) Complete an application to begin the registration process. There are 2 different applications depending on your needs.  If you intend to request both classroom and housing accommodations, you must fill out both applications.

2) Upload current disability verification documentation. Disability verification documentation must be from a licensed treating provider (for example, a comprehensive assessment with adult measures for a learning disability or psychological based condition). The documentation should include  an explanation as to how your disability/medical condition impacts your participation in courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities of the university. An SDR Advisor can provide assistance with developing a plan to obtain a comprehensive learning disability assessment or other disability verification based on CSU Policy.  If you have other questions about obtaining disability verification documentation, you may attend one of SDR's drop-in sessions to speak with an SDR Advisor.

If you do not have documentation to upload at the time of completing the application, you can upload it at a later time by logging into the AIM Student Portal and using the "Additional and/or Updated Documentation" feature.  

3) Additional form to complete and email to sdr-alternative-testing@csumb.edu:

SDR ensures confidentiality of all disability-related documents and communication with students.

4) After the application(s) is completed and documentation verifying a disability/medical condition/functional limitation has been uploaded into the AIM Student Portal, an SDR Advisor will review the forms. SDR will then email you on the status of your application and next steps.

Step #2

Once you have received an email from SDR directing you to schedule an intake appointment, please do so by calling the SDR office at (831) 582-3672 or emailing student_disability_resources@csumb.edu. 

  • If you are currently enrolled in classes, schedule the soonest available appointment.
      • Please be aware there usually is a 2-4 week wait at the beginning of a semester. 
  • If you are a new, incoming student requesting housing accommodations for the Fall semester, please schedule your appointment during the month of May after you've applied for Student Housing.
      • The deadline for Fall 2022 Housing Accommodations is June 1st, 2022. 
  • If you are a new, incoming student requesting classroom accommodations, please schedule your appointment after you have enrolled in your Fall courses in mid-July. If you are starting at CSUMB in the Spring semester, please schedule your appointment in mid-December after having enrolled in courses.

Students who utilize accommodations such as alternative formats and  sign language interpreters, should make arrangements to meet with an SDR Advisor  as soon as they are registered for courses, as these accommodations may require up to 6 weeks to organize.

Step #3

Meet with a SDR Advisor during your scheduled New Client appointment.

During this meeting, you will discuss your specific needs with your SDR Advisor who will determine reasonable accommodations. The following questions will be answered in the process:

  • what accommodations are provided
  • when will the accommodations be provided
  • who is responsible for providing accommodations
  • how will the accommodations be provided

Standard procedures for accommodation services (e.g., sign language, document conversion to alternate formats, test taking facilitation) may also be discussed. Some accommodation requests may need more than one meeting for full consideration of needs.
