Student Disability Resources

Getting Started

If you are new to Student Disability Resources (SDR) and have not yet received disability accommodations at CSUMB, you need to register with SDR first.

CSUMB has Disability Resource Advisors for students; their role is to assist students with gaining access to university programs and services such as accommodations for academic courses and housing. The SDR Advisor can refer students to other campus departments, advise about procedures, and may provide recommendations about resources off campus.

Due to the time it takes to meet with students and review student information, please PLAN AHEAD when making your accommodations requests.  Please anticipate that there are impacts to wait times for appointments, letters, and communications with your instructors and staff for implementation.

To become registered  with SDR, please complete the following steps:

Step #1

Schedule an appointment to meet with one of our Disability Resource advisors by calling our office at (831) 582-3672 or emailing student_disability_resources@csumb.edu. Please see the information below to determine when you should schedule a New Client appointment.

  • If you are currently enrolled in classes, schedule the soonest available appointment.
    • Please be aware there usually is a 2-4 week wait at the beginning of a semester.
  • If you are an incoming student requesting housing accommodations, please schedule your appointment during the month of May 2022 after you've applied for Student Housing
    • The deadline for Fall 2022 Housing Accommodations is June 1st, 2022.
  • If you are an incoming student requesting classroom accommodations, please schedule your appointment after you have enrolled in your Fall 2022 courses in mid-July.

Incoming students are welcome to submit their documentation early (see next step), after receiving your CSUMB email. You are also welcome to attend our drop-in sessions to check in with an SDR advisor to ask about documentation (see home page for info on drop-ins).

Students who utilize alternative formats or sign language interpreters are strongly urged to meet with an SDR Advisor as soon as they are registered for their courses as these accommodations may require up to 6 weeks to organize.

During the Spring 2022 semester, SDR continues to operate remotely. We are OPEN for appointments via telephone or Zoom meetings Monday through Friday from 9:00 am-5:30 pm. Appointments after 5pm may be requested as an exception.

Step #2

Obtain current disability verification documentation from a licensed treating provider (for example, a comprehensive assessment with adult measures for a learning disability or psychological based condition). The documentation should have an explanation as to how your disability/medical condition impacts your participation in courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities of the university. See Disability Verification Forms below.

The Needs Assessment and Information Sheet must be completed prior to your appointment. It is strongly recommended that you have disability verification documentation prior to your appointment.

  • For questions about documentation, please attend one of our drop-in sessions to check in with an SDR advisor (see home page for info on drop-ins).
  • An SDR Advisor can provide assistance with developing a plan to obtain a comprehensive learning disability assessment or other disability verification based on CSU Policy.

Documents to complete:

SDR will ensure that disability-related documents and communication are kept confidential.

Step #3

Meet with a SDR advisor during your scheduled New Client appointment!

During this meeting, discuss your specific needs and determine reasonable accommodations. The following questions will be answered in the process:

  • what accommodations are provided
  • when they will be provided
  • who is responsible for providing accommodations
  • how they will be provided

Standard procedures for accommodation services (e.g., sign language, document conversion to alternate formats, test taking facilitation) will be discussed. Some accommodation requests may need more than one meeting for full consideration of needs.

SDR Orientation

We plan to resume SDR orientations for incoming students in Fall 2022.
