B.F.A. (Drawing and Printmaking) University of Minnesota Twin Cities

Martha exhibited her paintings and drawings across the Midwest in galleries and museums such as the Hopkins Center for the Arts and The North Shore Gallery for over ten years, before deciding to officially integrate her love for the sciences into her work. Earning a graduate degree in Science Illustration from California State University Monterey Bay in 2010, Martha went on to work with the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, and the Smithsonian Institute and USDA in Washington DC. Her work in both instances focused on invertebrate zoology, mainly entomology anatomy and bivalve gill structures. Since graduating from CSUMB, Martha has worked with a diverse array of clients including Vice Magazine, The Florida Institute for Neuroscience, Nuvimedix, and Amcraft Manufacturing. In 2013 she moved from Chicago to northern California while still working for clients such as and Ninetimes Digital Advertising. In California, Martha created two life sciences textbooks for TCI, a K-12 interactive publishing company based in Silicon Valley. She believes that compelling illustrations can enhance the learning experience of science students of all ages and enjoys tackling the challenges of rendering oftentimes complicated scientific concepts. She has furthered this mission through her blog DOPE NOPES that highlights some of the more obscure and fascinating creatures around the world through her art.
