Filipe Franco is a freelance science illustrator and art instructor. He received a M.A. in Artistic Anatomy from the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal (2013) and a B.A. in Graphic Design from the Instituto de Artes Visuais, Design e Marketing, Lisbon, Portugal (1989). He completed the Science Illustration Certificate Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA (2008), supported by an educational grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in collaboration with the Luso-American Development Foundation. Additional education includes several courses in scientific illustration, Portugal (2005, 2006); botanical illustration, UK (2005); and forensic art, US (2008). Filipe Franco is also dedicated to anthropological research in both forensic and archaeological / paleontological contexts, more specifically, methods and techniques applied to facial approximation procedures.
