Welcome to the Personal Growth and Counseling Center (PGCC). Please know that we are here to support you and help you achieve academic success.
To promote the mental health of all CSUMB students in order to improve the quality of their lives and aid them in achieving academic success. We are committed to the development of the whole person: academically, personally, socially, spiritually, and physically.
Mental Health Concerns
Undocumented students are often faced with unique challenges and have to overcome additional barriers in higher education. In addition to the common college stressors, students may also experience increased financial stress, psychological stress from the renewal process, fear of safety for self and family, feelings of isolation and limited social support. While undocumented students are typically resilient and trailblazers, the added stressors can sometimes impact student’s emotional, spiritual, and mental health.
How can counseling help?
Counseling can help students by learning strategies to cope with the demands of life. At PGCC, we will treat you with dignity, respect, and worth. We hope to offer you a chance to help you resolve personal problems, learn new skills for the future, develop personal strength and help you achieve academic success. PGCC offers a variety of support services including short-term individual counseling, group counseling, and crisis help.
How do I schedule a counseling appointment?
Enrolled students interested in counseling must complete a brief intake appointment at the PGCC. Intake appointments are 20 minutes and can be completed during our walk-in hours. We do not schedule by email.
All information disclosed in counseling is confidential. Counseling records are kept separate from all academic, administrative and medical records. We do not share information with anyone without written authorization from the student, for the exception when reporting is required by law.
