Our 2018 Orientation Leader Team!

FYE Application - Due Feb 14, 2018 by Midnight

Please answer all of the following questions in about a 3 minute video (preferred) or in a 1-2 page response:

  1. Why did you decide to attend CSUMB?
  2. How do you contribute to CSUMBs Vision?
  3. Why do you want to be on the team?
  4. If you attended an Orientation session, what do you remember most about that experience? If you did not attend an orientation session, why do you think it's important for students to go through Orientation?
  5. What is your major and why did you choose that major?
  6. How do you stay motivated and motivate those around you?
  7. What 3 adjectives would your friends use to describe you and why?
  8. What are the top 5 things all new students should do at CSUMB?

Note: Youtube videos are preferred. If opting to write an essay, please share with degutierrez@csumb.edu via Google Docs and provide a link within the application.

FYE Student Leader Positions

Each of these unique leadership positions provide an outstanding opportunity to get involved at CSUMB, help welcome new students to campus, and develop your leadership skills.

Orientation Leaders

  • Help welcome new First Year and Transfer students at Orientation!
  • Contract timing: June (~ 4 weeks)
  • Room & partial board during orientation season provided
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Make an impact at CSUMB!
  • $500 Stipend

OWOW Leaders

  • Stands for Otter Wilderness Orientation Workshop
  • Help lead the Outdoor Orientation program!
  • Contract timing: August (~2 weeks)
  • Early move in & partial board
  • Develop your leadership and outdoor skills
  • Make an impact at CSUMB!
  • $250 Stipend

Otter Days Leaders

  • Help welcome all new First Year students during Move-In and Otter Days!
  • Contract timing: August (~2 weeks)
  • Early move in & partial board
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Make an impact at CSUMB!
  • $150 Stipend

Orientation Student Coordinator/Intern

  • Help & assist the First Year Experience Coordinator with their daily tasks
  • Assist with hiring processes
  • Help facilitate trainings
  • Liaison for FYE coordinator, student leaders & campus partners
  • Administrative support
  • Must have been an Orientation Leader for at least one full year
Orientation Intern Application

Student leadership training

All positions will take part in Spring Leadership Training Workshops with dates to be determined (they will be listed in your contract).

Orientation Leaders will start training at the end of spring semester for two weeks leading up to the summer orientation programs that take place during Mid June. We provide you with the housing and a partial meal plan during this time and you will also receive a stipend at the conclusion of the program.

Otter Days Leaders will start training in August prior to Move-In and Otter Days. Otter Days Leaders are the guides during Otter Days for new students, and the leaders in this position will have a very busy and fun filled week before classes! The commitment ends on the first day of class and we provide you with early-move-in (if applicable), partial meal plan, as well as a stipend you will receive at the conclusion of the program.

Otter Wilderness Orientation Workshop Leaders (OWOW Leaders) will start training in early August leading up to OWOW. You will leave for the OWOW trip the week before classes begin! You will be provided with early-move-in (if applicable), partial meal plan, as well as a stipend you will receive at the conclusion of the program.

There are many benefits to being involved with these First Year Experience positions including engaging in a comprehensive training program and facilitating high-impact First Year Experience programs. Being an FYE leader looks great on your resume or grad school application and is also a great way to meet fellow Otters and expand your social connections on campus. Make this summer a memorable one by giving back to your campus community while having fun and developing your skills.
