RAFT Peer Mentor Program
The RAFT Peer Mentor program is a program for students in their first year at CSUMB. This program intended to serve students at CSUMB who fall into one or more of the following categories:Transfer Student
- First Generation
- Pell Eligible
- Commuter (when not working remotely)
- Underrepresented Minorities
The goals of the RAFT Peer Mentor program are to contribute to retention and graduation rates for first-generation and commuter students and to eliminate the equity gap for underrepresented minorities and pell-eligible students.
New students and their mentors will interact individually, in small groups, and in large groups through emails, mentoring sessions, workshops, and intermittent events. New students should use mentors as a go-to resource for questions of any kind. Mentors will help new students acclimate to CSUMB by providing valuable information about the campus and community by sharing their own experiences.
Mentors will be trained to provide referrals in areas commonly needed for new students in the identified populations. Common areas of referral will include:
- Academic Advising
- Financial Aid
- Tutoring Services
- Campus Involvement
New students participating in the mentor program will also be given the opportunity to meet with one another in cohort groups to provide an additional avenue for connection and peer-to-peer support.
If you have any questions about the program, please email RAFT Peer Mentor Program.
