Orientation questions

What do I wear to orientation?

Dress in comfortable layers. The weather in Monterey varies and can be sunny and 80 degrees in the morning, and foggy and a chilly 60 degrees by the afternoon or vice versa. You will be walking around campus, so wear comfortable walking shoes as well.

What do I bring to orientation?

Bring a photo ID and a great attitude!

Will I have a chance to talk with someone about financial aid, student housing, and food services?

Yes, in addition to the presentations from each of these departments you will have an opportunity to speak with staff from various campus partners at the Student Resource Fair after lunch.

Who is invited to New Student Otter Orientation?

Undergraduate students whom are conditionally admitted and have submitted the $100 Enrollment Confirmation Deposit by the stated deadline.

Is orientation required?

Orientation is expected for all incoming students.

How do I sign up for orientation?

Eligible undergraduate students whom are conditionally admitted for Fall 2015 and have submitted the $100 Enrollment Confirmation Deposit, will find a link on their Dashboard that enables them to register for orientation via CMS - they can also click the Green Button at the top of the Orientation Webpage.

Will I receive a confirmation of my reservation?

Yes. After your fee payment and reservation form is processed, you will receive an email letter confirming your orientation date.

Do I need a parking permit on the day of orientation?

Parking:

For our Orientation Sessions parking will be in Lot 71. We will have directional signs as well as Orientation leaders out there to help you out.

How much does it cost to attend orientation?

The Orientation program fee is $70 for Transfer Students and $100 for First time Freshman. Supporters who attend will need to pay an additional $40. Please note that orientation fees are non-refundable.

Can I get my orientation fees reduced?

Maybe. Students with an Official Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of zero are eligible for a reduced orientation fee of $40 for transfer students and $70 for First Time Freshman. The $40 fee for guests still applies. If you qualify, the online registration system will automatically adjust your fee amount.

Will meals be provided?

Yes, refreshments will be served throughout the day.

How long is orientation?

Transfers:

● Half day program

● Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. Please arrive no later than 8:00am.

● The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and should end at approximately 1:00 p.m. Students must attend the entire program to receive priority registration.

First Time Freshman

● One full-day program

● Check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. Please arrive no later than 8:00am.

● The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and should end at approximately 5:00 p.m. Students must attend the entire program to receive priority registration.

Where do I check in for orientation?

Check in and the majority of Orientation will take place at our University Center (Bldg.#29).

From Northbound 101 (San Luis Obispo/King City):

Follow Highway 101 north to Salinas.Take the Monterey Peninsula exit (Sanborn Road). At the stop sign, turn right to go back under the highway. Sanborn Road will bend to the right and become Blanco Road. Remain on Blanco Road until it bends to the left and ends at a traffic light. At the light, turn right to merge onto Reservation Road. Turn left at the second traffic signal onto Imjin Road. Turn left again at the second traffic signal onto Abrams Drive.Wind through the CSUMB Housing area, then, when the road ends, turn right onto Inter-Garrison Road. Follow the signs to the designated campus location.

From Southbound 101 (San José/Gilroy):

Follow Highway 101 south toward Salinas.Merge onto Highway 156 west toward the Monterey Peninsula. Highway 156 becomes Highway 1 south. Take Exit 406 (CSU Monterey Bay/Fort Ord Main Entrance). You will circle back over the highway onto Light Fighter Drive. At the third traffic signal, turn left onto Gen Jim Moore Blvd.Follow the signs to the designated campus location.

From Northbound Highway 1 (Monterey Peninsula/Seaside):

Follow Highway 1 north.Take Exit 406 (CSU Monterey Bay/Fort Ord Main Entrance). At the third traffic signal, turn left onto Gen Jim Moore Blvd.Follow the signs to the designated campus location.

Fees

The cost for orientation is $70 per transfer student and $100 per First Time Freshman with an additional $40 for each supporter you bring. This fee covers program materials, facilities, staffing, parking, and lunch. Please note that orientation fees are nonrefundable.

For those students with extenuating circumstances who wish to have fees refunded an Orientation Fee Refund Petition must be completed. The following are examples of non-extenuating circumstances that will not be considered for refund and they include but are not limited to: administrative withdrawal, no longer eligible, student decides not to attend the university, or orientation. All requests for a refund must be made 30 days in advance of their orientation date.

Your registration for New Student Orientation is not complete until we receive your fees. Please note: CSUMB registration, tuition, and housing fees do not include this fee.

Fee waiver information

Partial Fee Waiver

Partial fee waivers are available to those students receiving financial aid and have an EFC (Expected Family Contribution) of zero on their FAFSA report.

Please note: A fee waiver does not eliminate all fees. The regular Transfer fee of $70 is reduced to $40 and the regular First Time Freshman fee of $100 is reduced to $70. The guest fee of $40, per guest, still applies.
