As the holidays ramp up, the semester winds down: the last day of instruction is Dec. 10, assessment and finals are Dec. 13-17, and the campus closes Dec. 24-31.
Many students will be leaving campus for winter break, not to return until the spring semester in late January. But not everyone will leave. Some will be attending winter semester classes, and some will be here because it’s the option that works for them or is available to them.
Those students won’t be alone. And university services won’t be completely shuttered.
For health and wellness services, students enrolled during winter break can call the Campus Health Center to make an appointment between Jan. 3-21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Personal Growth and Counseling Center has 24/7 mental health crisis support at 831-582-3969.
COVID-19 required testing for students and employees ends Friday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. Required testing resumes again Monday, Jan. 3, for employees and Monday, Jan. 24, for students.
CSUMB’s COVID-19 testing site is open Monday, Dec. 20 - Wednesday, Dec. 22; closes Thursday, Dec. 23 - Sunday, Jan. 2; and opens again Monday, Jan. 3.
Student Housing and Residential Life's main office will have limited hours, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Dec. 20-23, and will be closed Dec. 24 to Jan. 2. However, Resident Advisors will be on call throughout the winter break by phone on the SHRL webpage.
Students can submit work and maintenance orders in the MyHousing portal for main campus, and through Rentcafe for Frederick Park, though some work may experience delays. Facilities emergencies should be communicated to the RA on call for main campus or Greystar Property Management office at 831-883-3157 for residents of Frederick Park.
SHRL will reopen on Jan. 3 for limited business hours of 9 a.m. - 2 p.m, and they resume standard business hours on Jan. 24, from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Shipping and receiving (including mail services delivery) will continue during winter break except during the holiday Dec. 24 - Jan. 2. Facilities Maintenance Services will be available during the winter break by calling the Facilities Service Desk at 831-582-3700.
Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) bus services will be modified effective Dec. 18 as follows:
- Line 19 Del Monte Center - CSUMB via East Campus: Service will end.
- Line 25 CSUMB - Salinas will not operate between Dec. 18 - Jan. 20. Service will resume on Jan. 21.
- Line 26 CSUMB - East Campus Express: Service will end.
Starting on Dec. 17, the Otter Student Union will function under winter hours, which are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mon-Fri, closed on weekends. From Dec. 24 to Jan. 2, the building will be closed for the holiday break. Then Jan. 3-20, it resumes 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mon-Fri, closed on weekends.
The University Police Department, as always, operates 24/7 through the break. Though the front lobby will be closed during the university recognized holiday, Dec. 27 - Jan. 2. The 24-hour non-emergency police services phone number is 831-655-0268.
The various winter break operating hours for Starbucks, Sea Store, Burger 831, The Eatery, Library Cafe, Ghost Kitchen and Bok Choy are available on the Otter Kitchens website.
Through Dec. 17, the Tanimura and Antle Library is operating 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. Mon-Thu, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Fri and Sat, and 2 - 10 p.m. Sun. Then it closes Dec. 18 - Jan. 2 (but they are offering online research help), and then reopens under winter hours Jan. 3-22 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Mon-Fri, closed on the weekend.
