Most of us are Marine Science and Biology majors doing outdoor research projects while learning useful electronics, robotics, and programming skills.
We conduct marine ecology and biomechanics research projects using robots and instrumentation systems we design and build ourselves. We focus primarily on benthic marine ecology in the Monterey Bay region, but we also work occasionally in tropical reef systems, and sometimes we work on local terrestrial or fresh water projects. We also use our inventions to assist schools, agencies, and community organizations with ecosystem monitoring, research, or education. Our technical specialties include:
- remotely-operated underwater vehicles (ROVs)
- programmable camera and sensor systems for monitoring ecosystem change
- web-based telepresence in remote habitats
- wildlife & fish surveillance
