Dr. Laura Good is the Science Education & Outreach Coordinator at CSUMB. As both a researcher and practitioner, her academic background is in ocean science and science education. Laura specializes in professional and informal, or “free choice” learning, and currently facilitates programs that support early career scientists, including undergraduate and graduate students, having spent the previous five years crafting leadership development activities for emerging ocean environmental leaders with Stanford University’s Center for Ocean Solutions. Prior to her arrival in California, Laura spent four years as an education research assistant for Oregon Sea Grant studying how people learn in science museum environments, and how scientists engage in outreach and communication. She was also an educational evaluator for the Centers for Ocean Science Education Excellence (COSEE) focused on volunteer training practices in science and environmental interpretation. Over the course of her career, Laura has created a variety of environmental education curriculum, taught college and professional learning courses/workshops, and managed several undergraduate, graduate, K-12, summer camp, and museum-based education programs. Laura also serves on the board for the National Marine Educators Association as the Chair for Current: The Journal of Marine Education, and as part of their Education Research Committee
