Taking photos on campus
Please see our photo request process for more information about how to schedule a photoshoot or obtain photos for university use.
Photo release forms
Download our photo release form.
Photos taken of individuals participating in university-related events are encouraged to sign photo release forms for university use. Exceptions to the Photo Release Form requirement are for general campus photos or photos taken at public events. This may include photos where people are not easily identifiable, crowd shots, or there are reasonable expectations that attendees could appear in photos taken at a public event.
Photography taken of individuals in classrooms, buildings, or within any expectation of privacy should have the written approval of the individual for use of the image. If the subject is a minor under the age of 18, a parent or guardian is required to sign the form.
Photo release signs
If you are planning to take promotional photos for an event, you are highly encouraged to print and post photo release signs at least an hour before event start time to ensure attendees see the signs before they participate in the event.
Photography and videography on campus
CSUMB allows people to take photographs on campus as long as it does not disrupt the academic environment. Any individual or organization other than the working media that plans to take pictures for broadcast or public use must contact University Communications.
Any person wishing to take photographs of the campus with the purpose of using them in any form for commercial gain should first contact University Communications or the Office of the President.
