Our Students and Our Approach

The majority of the students we work with at the Learning Center are resident non-native speakers of English, International students, and students who have expressed a need for help with language skills. We approach instruction from a language learning perspective and help students learn the rules and culture of academic English.

What We Teach

  • Academic vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Patterns in academic English for successful self-editing
  • Academic reading strategies
  • Speaking and listening skills
  • Registers of language, from formal to informal and genre specific
  • University and American culture explanations and comparisons
  • Presentation skills
