Planning Guidelines

When planning a event at CSUMB

  1. Plan all activities as far in advance as possible (at least two weeks for meetings, three weeks for student events and ninety days for larger scale events).
  2. Determine your preferred date and time. Have a back-up date and time in mind.
  3. Estimate the number of attendees and your total space needs.
  4. Determine your audiovisual requirements.
  5. Plan your catering menu (sorry, no outside food allowed on campus). Our on campus catering department can assist with any menu planning whether you need a buffet, boxed lunches or a plated meal.
  6. Decide if parking permits or parking services are are needed. Parking is enforced 24/7.
  7. Determine any special accommodation for your attendees; then contact the Student Disabilities Resources department at (831) 582-3672.

Things to consider for the event

  • Food service/catering: Catering is provided by our on campus catering department. For a complete menu of items, check out their website.
  • Alcohol: Alcohol is ONLY allowed at special events with prior approval, to be served in reserved rooms at the University Center, Alumni and Visitor Center or Monte's. Consumption of alcohol must follow the Alcohol Use Procedures.
  • After hours use: After hour and weekend use may incur additional staffing, custodial and set up charges.
  • Parking: Parking is enforced 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Permits may be obtained from the permit dispensers in each parking lot or through
  • Police presence: Additional charges may be incurred if police officers are required depending upon the estimated attendance and if alcohol is served.
