Participants will learn how to use the Genome Browser to zoom and scroll over chromosomes, showing the work of annotators worldwide, and theGene Sorterto show expression, homology and other information on groups of related genes. These tools have been instrumental in a variety of fascinating research projects at UCSC and beyond, including the sequencing and analysis of the Neandertal genome (published by Green et al. in ScienceMay 2010). The Genome Browser workshop will be on March 31st and April 1 at CSUMB from 9am-5pm (with lunch break). There are no pre-requisites to participate and the workshops is free to CSUMB faculty, students, and educational partners. There are 40 available seats and it will be first come first serve.
