CSUMB Salinas City Center will host another free, fun and family-friendly First Friday Event in December 2019. This will mark the second anniversary of First Friday at the Center, and we are excited to celebrate with the Community. In 2017, only four people attended the First Friday event. Last month, 2800 people were in attendance.
First Fridays offer a unique, uplifting environment that celebrates the creativity of our communities and connections with California State University Monterey Bay Students, faculty and staff.
This month we will feature a diverse mix of programming including a film premiere, Live panting, Arts and Crafts Workshops, Live Music, Art and History Exhibitions, Cooking Demonstrations, Memoir Readings and more CSUMB Student Research Presentations.
Culinary Event and Conversation: The Alchemy of Flavor: 4:30 pm
A presentation and roundtable where we can all talk about our experiences with food flavors, techniques, and culture. Food will be enjoyed. Presented by Angel F. Gonźalez, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Sustainable Hospitality Management, College of Business and his students.
Literary Reading: 5:30 - 7pm
Professor Maria Villaseñor and her students present: Herencias. "Herencias" (a word which means both "heritages" and "inheritances." A reading of Professor Maria Villaseñors students' memoirs. This annual tradition is always profoundly moving and inspiring.
Film Premiere: 6 and 7pm Making a Life
A CSUMB Service Learning Institute project featuring a scene shot in Professor Pam Motoike's class "Making a Life" features 8 Salinas Valley families. The film calls attention to the need for immigrants to know their constitutional rights and utilize the community resources available. This will be the only screening of the film prior to its world premiere on Telemundo. The English Language Version will screen at 6 pm, followed by a discussion with filmmakers CSUMB students. The Spanish Language version will screen at 7pm also followed by a discussion with filmmakers CSUMB students.
