Many incoming freshmen students are required to take English (EPT) and/or Mathematics (ELM) placement tests, unless otherwise exempt, prior to enrolling in classes at CSUMB. Your MyCSUMB dashboard will notify you if one or both of these exams is required.Register for the EPT/ELM via ETS.org
Taking the test at CSUMB

EPT/ELM testing info at the CSUMB campus:
Check-in begins at 8:30am. No one will be seated after testing begins at 9:00am.
9:00am - 2:30pm. Testing end time is approximate. If you are only taking one test, your test will end at approximately 11:30.
Testing will take place in the Tanimura & Antle Family Memorial Library on Divarty St and 5th Ave.
All test takers park in Lots 19 or 13 adjacent to the Chapman Science Academic Center. You are required to pay for parking on campus.
Walk-ins Without a Registration
CSUMB will accomodate walk-ins only if there is space available once the registered students have been checked-in.
Paying for the Test
Each test costs $18.00. $36.00 for both EPT/ELM tests. All pre-registered test takers must pay via the online registration website. Walk-ins: We only accept check or money order. No cash. Make checks payable to "ETS".
Must present a picture ID in order to gain entrance to the exams. Drivers license, school ID, membership ID card, etc.
Special Accommodation for Disabled Students
You must register for the exam and then contact our Student Disability Resources (SDR) office 2 weeks prior to the exam. Taking the Test at another CSU Campus
To take the EPT/ELM test at another CSU campus visit ets.org/csu to confirm locations and sign up for a test date.
If you live outside of the state of California, have been admitted to CSUMB, and need to take the EPT and/or the ELM, check your My.CSUMB dashboard to determine which exams you must take.
Placement exam deadlines are listed on your dashboard. All out-of-state placement exams must be completed by end of April. Failure to take the exam(s) will prevent you from being able to attend CSUMB.
¹Standardized test are only valid for three years from the date taken. Only official score reports will be used for admission, testing, placement, or credit purposes.
