Guaranteed Back Up Scholarship
Scholarship Program Overview
California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is proud to announce the launch of a new financial aid initiative aimed at supporting incoming low-income students who are facing delays in the Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process. Recognizing the critical impact of these delays on students’ ability to fund their education, CSUMB has introduced the Guaranteed Back-Up Scholarship, offering up to $4,000 for eligible California residents admitted for Fall 2024.
This initiative comes as a response to the challenges posed by FAFSA delays, with CSUMB committing to support its community by ensuring no student is left behind due to procedural setbacks. The scholarship is designed to provide immediate relief to students who are still awaiting federal and state aid decisions.
Eligibility Criteria:
- California resident students admitted to CSUMB for Fall 2024
- low-income family
- Submitted a FAFSA and have CSUMB school code list by May 2, 2024
- Must confirm enrollment by May 15
- What happens if I complete my FAFSA but fail to submit the necessary documents?
CSUMB encourages students to complete all required steps for the FAFSA to ensure eligibility for federal and state aid, including the Guaranteed Back-Up Scholarship. - If my FAFSA is delayed and I receive the scholarship, but later receive my financial aid, can I keep the scholarship?
It depends on when you receive your federal aid. Each student’s case is different and will work with each student and their family. - How will the scholarship be applied to my bill, and is a payment extension possible based on this scholarship?
The scholarship funds will be directly applied to your student account, covering tuition and other educational expenses. Students facing financial difficulties can also explore payment extension options with the student billing office.
