Student Affairs involves many departments, programs, and services that provide a distinctive CSUMB experience. Our focus is on academic success, health and wellness, student leadership, civic engagement, convenient and quality student support, and personal growth and development.
Student Affairs envisions a student centered and learning focused environment. We are here to support you and your success as a student, and are supportive in assisting you in realizing your goal of becoming a CSUMB graduate!
Drug Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA)
The purpose of the DFSCA is to prevent the unlawful possession, use and distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees on institutional property, or as part of any of its activities. CSUMB is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment conducive to learning, teaching and working for students and employees.

Athletics
Cal State Monterey Bay will be the premier collegiate athletics brand in the Monterey Bay region and a NCAA DII leader in our pursuit of student-athlete success. We develop our student-athletes to be workforce ready through education, mentoring and training that fosters resiliency, strong communication, teamwork and effective time management.
Basic Needs
The CSUMB Basic Needs Initiative endeavors to support students to be successful by ensuring their basic needs are met through resources, access and advocacy.
Basic Needs refers to the food, housing and overall wellness security of our community. Having one’s basic needs met has a direct impact on the academic performance, mental health, physical health, professional development and holistic wellbeing of our students.
Campus Health Center
The Campus Health Center provides urgent, primary, and diagnostic care, as well as referral services to the CSUMB campus community. Our staff of medical professionals is dedicated to meeting patient needs and promoting wellness and independence.
Child Care Center
CSUMB has partnered with Early Development Services (EDS) to provide quality, licensed, affordable childcare to the campus community. The Child Care Center can serve 24 preschool children (36 months to 5 years), 12 early-preschool children (25 months to 35 months), and 12 toddlers (12 months to 24 months). They are open year-round except for certain holidays and 3 teacher in-service days.
Members of the CSUMB community who are interested in enrolling their children are encouraged to contact the Child Care Center for more information (831 582-4550).
Clery
The Clery compliance program is managed by the Clery Compliance Officer who identifies the adequate campus partners to administer applications and develops strategic initiatives to identify and resolve compliance discrepancies.
Components of the program include but are not limited to:
- Identifying, notifying, and training Campus Security Authorities
- Assessing crimes and, if warranted, publishing timely warnings
- Disclosing the campus' safety and security policies and criminal statistical data
- Publishing the institutions Annual Security Report
Dean of Students
Student Life provides a learning environment both in and outside the classroom to promote student retention and success. We strive to keep the university’s commitment to community, service, technology, sustainability, diversity, excellence, innovation, and partnerships as we facilitate students’ development as healthy, culturally competent global citizens.
The Dean of Students office promotes an inclusive campus community and serves as a resource for students and their families. We work closely with the other deans and faculty on the campus to provide support, information, referrals, and facilitate resolution to student concern.
First Year Experience
The First Year Experience office organizes and coordinates programs such as the campus’ New Student Orientation, the common read experience, Otter Days, and RAFT weekend. Our office strives to make student’s campus integration a positive experience to aid in their success and retention.
We aim to include all new first time students through New Student Orientation, and their families/supporters as they acclimate and transition into the CSUMB community. By collaborating with campus partners, we will expose all new students to the resources available to them, providing social, academic, and campus integration in order to focus on student success and retention.

Health and Wellness Services
Health and Wellness Services is comprised of the Campus Health Center, the Personal Growth and Counseling Center, and Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC). We strive to assist members of the CSUMB community in achieving and maintaining physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
Otter Student Union
The Otter Student Union (OSU) at CSU Monterey Bay is a student-centered 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to be the heartbeat of campus and a bridge to surrounding communities, providing spaces, opportunities, and advocacy that cultivate belonging reflective of CSUMB's founding vision.
Recreation
Through Recreation, we engage our community in innovative and benchmark programs, services, and facilities to strengthen the University and advocate for the advancement of recreation, sport, and wellness.
Second Year Experience
The Second Year Experience team strives to create a positive second year at CSUMB. The SYE team works to support students in identity development, career and major exploration, understanding financial literacy, and developing mindfulness techniques to manage all the responsibilities of your second year.
Student Conduct
The Office of Student Conduct strives to support students in attaining their educational goals and facilitate their integrity and ethical development. We guide students in better understanding the University's expectations and the disciplinary process, by providing information to encourage students in making mindful, ethical, respectful choices and decisions.
Student Engagement and Leadership Development
As a service of the Division of Student Affairs, Student Engagement and Leadership Development serves a critical role in ensuring the educational development of the whole student by helping to guide the academic mission of the institution. We are committed to achieving these goals by providing a wide array of programs, campus events, leadership and civic engagement opportunities supporting students’ collegiate endeavors throughout their academic career.
Student Disability and Accessibility Center
Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC) promotes the empowerment, wellness and full integration of students with disabilities into campus life and the campus community. We seek to provide academic and personal support services to students with disabilities in order for them to attain success at CSUMB.
Student Housing and Residential Life
Student Housing and Residential Life provides a rich and unique opportunity for you participate in a convenient living experience within the campus community. With a wide array of students from different backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles and attitudes, our aim to allow you to learn more about yourself and others to help make your stay at CSUMB a successful one.
The Personal Growth and Counseling Center
The Personal Growth and Counseling Center’s mission is promote the mental health of CSUMB students in order to improve the quality of their lives and aid them in achieving academic success. We are committed to the development of the whole person: academically, personally, socially, spiritually, and physically.
