Cultivating technology, creating careers
The College of Science provides a broad-based, integrated approach to the study of science, technology, design, engineering, and mathematics, utilizing a sophisticated framework for making informed, humane and ethical choices in the Information Age. Our students are well-equipped to tackle local, regional and global issues, bringing much-needed solutions to complex land- and water-use problems faced by California and beyond. Our alumni work in a range of dynamic careers, including applied scientific research, environmental consulting, computing technology, government agencies, marine conservation, data analysis, scientific illustration and more.
Three words: Location, location, location
Located at the nexus of world-class research institutes, state and regional preserves, the Fort Ord National Monument, Salinas Valley, and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, Cal State Monterey Bay is a prime coastal location for studying the interconnection between science, the environment, agriculture, technology, and design.
With proximity to Monterey Bay and world-renowned programs at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and Moss Landing Marine Labs, our college’s programs in environmental and marine science offer students a unique opportunity to study with scientists who are in the top of their field. Focus areas in biology, chemistry, mathematics and statistics prepare students for advanced postgraduate studies. Computer science students enjoy proximity to Silicon Valley and access to challenging internships, resulting in jobs with world-class organizations like Electronic Arts and Apple.
Unparalleled Access to a National Marine Sanctuary
Where else but at Cal State Monterey Bay can marine science students become certified to scuba dive in a National Marine Sanctuary - home to iconic kelp forests and their diverse array of marine species - and whether it’s for recreation or research, our scuba diving students take away a lifetime of incalculable value, both personal and professional.
