OTTERalert is CSUMB’s emergency alert system. It delivers emergency alerts via email, text, desktop notification, and an outdoor speaker system to all members of the CSUMB community. CSUMB employees and students
CSUMB employees and students automatically receive emergency alert emails to their campus email address whenever there is an emergency on campus or when the system is undergoing testing.
Add a cell phone number to start receiving emergency alerts via text.
Parents and family members of CSUMB students and employees can receive emergency alerts via text by having their cell phone number added to an existing CSUMB student or employee OTTERalert account.
Anyone who is not a CSUMB employee or student can receive CSUMB’s emergency alerts via text by texting OTTERalert to 226787. Active emergency alerts can also be viewed at csumb.edu/emergency.
Update your phone number
If your phone number has changed, please update your OTTERalert information.
Alerting Methods
Email
OTTERalert emails are sent from csumb@email.getrave.com or noreply@genasys.com. CSUMB employees and students automatically receive OTTERalert emails to their campus email account.
Desktop
OTTERalert messaging are sent to all CSUMB-owned/managed computer workstations and laptops running the Rave Notifier software. OTTERalert will display a full-screen pop-up alert that provides messaging about the emergency on campus and what actions to take. Text
OTTERalert texts come from 77295, 226787, or 65513. To stop receiving the text alerts, reply STOP to an OTTERalert message. CSUMB employees and students are encouraged to enroll in text alert.
Speaker system
Depending on the situation, the campus speaker system may be used.
Website
CSUMB.edu/emergency may be used for notifications and updates. In the event of an emergency, every page of the CSUMB website displays a banner with emergency alerts and updates.
Social Media
CSUMB’s Facebook may be used for notifications and updates.
